Fudge Frosting


Ingredients

  • ½ cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • ⅔ cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients except vanilla in 2½-quart saucepan.
  2. Heat to rolling boil, stirring occasionally.
  3. Boil 1 minute without stirring.
  4. Place pan of frosting in bowl of ice and water.
  5. Beat frosting until smooth and of spreading consistency.
  6. Stir in vanilla.

Fills and frosts two 8- or 9-inch layers or frosts a 13x9-inch cake.
