Fluffy French Toast

Thick French bread slices are transformed into a company brunch treat. Serve with butter and offer a choice of syrup, jam or confectioners’ sugar.


  • ½ cup all-purpose flour*
  • 1½ tablespoons sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 18 slices day-old French bread, 1 inch thick
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine


  1. Beat flour, sugar, salt, milk and eggs with rotary beater until smooth.
  2. Soak bread in batter until saturated.
  3. Heat butter in skillet.
  4. Carefully transfer each bread slice to skillet; do not overcrowd.
  5. Cook bread over medium heat 12 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

*If using self-rising flour, omit salt.
