Thick French bread slices are transformed into a company brunch treat. Serve with butter and offer a choice of syrup, jam or confectioners’ sugar.
Ingredients
- ½ cup all-purpose flour*
- 1½ tablespoons sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups milk
- 6 eggs
- 18 slices day-old French bread, 1 inch thick
- 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
Directions
- Beat flour, sugar, salt, milk and eggs with rotary beater until smooth.
- Soak bread in batter until saturated.
- Heat butter in skillet.
- Carefully transfer each bread slice to skillet; do not overcrowd.
- Cook bread over medium heat 12 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
*If using self-rising flour, omit salt.
