Ingredients
- 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Dash salt
- 2½ cups confectioners’ sugar
Directions
- Blend cheese, milk, vanilla and salt.
- Gradually add sugar, beating until frosting is smooth and of spreading consistency.
- If necessary, stir in additional milk, 1 teaspoon at a time.
Fills and frosts two 8- or 9-inch layers or frosts a 13x9-inch cake.
Variations
- Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting: Before adding sugar, stir in 2 ounces melted unsweetened chocolate (cool).
- Coffee Cream Cheese Frosting: Blend in 1 tablespoon powdered instant coffee with the cheese.
- Peppermint Cream Cheese Frosting: Stir in 3 drops red food color and 2 tablespoons crushed peppermint candy. If desired, sprinkle top of frosted cake with crushed peppermint candy.
