Brown Sugar Drops


Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk or water
  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour*
  • 1 teaspoon each soda and salt

Directions

  1. Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar, eggs and buttermilk.
  2. Blend in flour, soda and salt.
  3. Cover; chill 1 hour.
  4. Heat oven to 400°.
  5. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto greased baking sheet.
  6. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until almost no imprint remains when touched with finger.
  7. Immediately remove from baking sheet.

*If using self-rising flour, omit soda and salt
